Purpose:

Florida Principles and Practices: This test is provided through the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation for those involved with the Administration of Building Departments, Code Enforcement Personnel, or Similar Department Managers. This test is REQUIRED (in addition to passing the appropriate ICC examination) in order to obtain the “Florida Standard Certificate” for inspectors, plans examiners, and code officials. You MUST apply to DBPR for approval to take this exam. YOU SHOULD NOT ATTEND THIS CLASS UNTIL YOU GET APPROVED as you will want to take the class within a week or two of testing if you can.

Reference Materials:

Various State Statutes and Administrative Codes are required for this test. See the state’s Candidate Information Brochure for more details or to apply. You may order the references as a ‘P&P package’ at Contractors Library, which includes the 2020 Principles & Practices Statute/rules binder published by Contractors Library, the 2020 Florida Energy Conservation Code, and 2020 Florida Accessibility Code.

Testing Knowledge

Questions are based upon content contained in the reference materials and from common administrative and legal knowledge. They are structured to cover a wide range of administrative and legal topics such as: Administrative Law; Property Law; Planning; Supervising Code Personnel; Negligent Wrongdoing; Discipline; Working with the Public at Large; and General Liability in order to ensure compliance with governing Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical Codes.

This test is a 2 1/2 hour exam consisting of 50 questions.


Schedule and Pricing

Course are available in CLASSROOM, SIMULTANEOUS LIVE WEBINARS via the internet, or on-demand online by watching RECORDED WEBINARS. Classes are held at our Learning Center located in Hudson, Florida 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The course fee is $300 for either format. Instruction and online simulated exams (bring your own exam references) will be available for 60  DAYS from enrollment. If you wish to retake this course there is a $150 retake fee for an additional 45 days. Students must have their own code or other reference material required for the testreference materials can be purchased from the Contractors Library.

How We Prepare You to Pass Your Exam:

The seminar will teach you how to pass your Principles & Practices exam — the first time! Students will discuss building construction standards, CILB and ECLB and other board rules and regulations, liquefied petroleum gas, fire prevention, flood insurance, motor vehicle licenses, workers compensation, and construction lien laws.

At the conclusion of the day, students will have covered the required information for the Florida Principles & Practices examination.

Students have access to unlimited simulated practice exams online (inspector) or written practice test questions (plans examiner) following class at no additional charge. Access to online materials are available for 60 DAYS following student sign-up (or online only) or class date (classroom/live webinar).
